As Corporate Environment Manager for Total E&P Canada's oil sands business, managed the multi-year Environmental Impact Assessment and regulatory application for the Joslyn North Mine Project. Oversaw environmental compliance monitoring — air quality, surface and groundwater, wildlife — and reporting under Alberta provincial (EPEA, Water Act) and Canadian federal (Department of Fisheries and Oceans, Environment Canada) requirements. Was part of the team that negotiated agreements with three Indigenous communities in the oil sands region, and chaired the Environmental Collaboration Committees responsible for implementing and monitoring those agreements.
As Director, Greenhouse Gas Technology Development for Canada's Oil Sands Innovation Alliance (COSIA) / Pathways Alliance — a consortium of six of Canada's largest oil sands producers — led the development and implementation of members' climate, GHG, and Net Zero by 2050 strategies, spanning carbon capture and storage, electrification, geothermal, and other emissions-reduction technologies.
Serving as Lead Author and Technical Lead on a cumulative effects compensation framework developed for the Government of British Columbia — establishing a structured approach to assessing and offsetting the compounding environmental effects of multiple developments across a shared landscape.
Technical lead on an adaptive management best-practices framework developed for the Canadian Wildlife Service and Environment and Climate Change Canada, supporting more responsive, evidence-based environmental management practices at the federal level.
Environmental and social due diligence and compliance review work aligned to development lender requirements — including the World Bank, IFC, and Equator Principles — across projects in more than a dozen countries, including Tanzania, Uganda, Kenya, Ghana, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Guinea-Bissau, Indonesia, Rwanda, South Africa, and Ethiopia.
Retained to provide ongoing environmental, health, safety, and social (HSSE) advisory support for two hydropower development projects in Kenya — client and project names withheld for confidentiality. Responsibilities included regular field visits to review HSSE performance and close out action items, coordinating and reviewing independent environmental and social audits, managing the Environmental and Social Action Plan (ESAP) and scoping follow-up consulting engagements, and providing strategic advice on stakeholder engagement and environmental and social management system (ESMS) implementation. Served as the primary point of coordination between the joint venture, the implementing authority, and independent auditors throughout the engagement.
Since 2009, has served as instructor for the Environmental Impact Assessment and Reporting course at the University of Calgary. Serves as an international trainer for the International Association for Impact Assessment (IAIA)'s Foundations of Impact Assessment course. Has also developed and delivered environmental management and impact assessment training directly to communities as a certified ECO Canada trainer, and contributed to curriculum development at SAIT (Southern Alberta Institute of Technology).
